Add acts and scenes

Robin and Alex have finished talking At the door. You want the next part, Outside, to start a new scene.

Start a new scene

1. Place the cursor at the end of the last nonempty writing block in the current scene.
2. Press ⏎ Enter to create the next empty block.
3. In the editor toolbar, open Change block type and choose Scene.
4. Write Outside as the heading.
5. Press ⏎ Enter at the end of the heading. With the default writing flow, the new block is Stage direction.
6. Write Robin and Alex step outside.

The new heading appears in the Structure sidebar. Its following blocks belong to this scene until the next Scene or Act heading. If your script already has an empty Scene heading where you want to begin, fill that heading instead.

You can also choose Scene through the empty-block chooser. To divide existing material, change a suitable block at the desired boundary to Scene; the following content becomes part of that scene. Check the block’s text before changing its role.

Continue after a scene heading

Keep the cursor at the end of the heading when you press ⏎ Enter. Pressing it in the middle moves the trailing text into the configured next type; it does not create a second Scene heading.

The next type follows your writing-flow settings. Creating another scene later is a separate choice.

Add the first act

1. Open the editor’s Structure sidebar.
2. Use Add to structure, then choose Add act.
3. Change the new act’s name in the sidebar to The departure.
4. Press ⏎ Enter or leave the name field to finish editing.

The first act is inserted before the script’s first block, grouping the existing scenes. Its name is editable directly in the sidebar; you can also edit its heading in the script.

Add another act

Use Add to structure → Add act again. Later acts are appended to the end of the script. Name the new one The return.

In the editor, place the cursor at the end of its Act heading and press ⏎ Enter. This creates a Scene heading. Write Back inside, then continue with its content.

To put an existing scene under this act, move the scene in the Structure sidebar. Acts are managed through the structure controls; they are not offered in the ordinary block-type menu.
